Circolo Amici della Musica “Girolamo Frescobaldi” is a cultural and educational non-profit association based in Ferrara, Italy. Founded in 1972, the association promotes music education, live concerts, and cultural heritage initiatives at both local and international level. Its activities include instrumental and vocal training for children and adults, interdisciplinary artistic projects, and collaborations with schools, municipalities, and cultural organisations. In recent years, the Circolo has expanded its mission to the preservation and digital valorisation of musical heritage, such as historical vinyl records, rare scores, and unique live recordings. Through innovative projects like “Vinyl Roots”, the Circolo combines tradition and innovation, contributing to community well-being and European cultural cooperation.
Description
Vinyl Roots is a cultural heritage project led by the Circolo Amici della Musica “Girolamo Frescobaldi” in Ferrara, Italy. The project aims to digitise, preserve, and disseminate a unique collection of more than 4,500 vinyl records, rare chamber music scores, and live cassette recordings of Luciano Pavarotti. Our goal is to transform this analogue archive into a digital resource accessible through the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage, enhancing both preservation and public engagement. The project will test innovative use cases for sound heritage digitisation, metadata creation, and interactive access. It will combine technical digitisation workflows with community engagement activities (workshops with schools, music education, storytelling, and co-creation with local communities). The outcome will be an open, searchable, and sustainable digital music archive, contributing to Europe’s cultural heritage cloud and supporting future research and education.
