We are pleased to share an upcoming article by La Tempesta, “Building an Open Source Strategy for the Semantic Web”, to be published on 3 February on the La Tempesta blog.
The article highlights a timely convergence between European digital policy and the growing role of semantic technologies in cultural heritage infrastructures. As the EU increasingly recognises open-source solutions as a cornerstone of digital sovereignty, resilience, and innovation, semantic web technologies are emerging as essential tools for interoperability, FAIR data stewardship, and the creation of interconnected knowledge ecosystems across institutions and platforms.
This alignment opens new opportunities to develop open, interoperable, and commercially viable solutions that support cultural heritage organisations while remaining fully aligned with evolving European frameworks for data governance and AI regulation. Rather than treating policy and technology as separate domains, the article demonstrates how they can reinforce one another through practical implementation.
In this context, La Tempesta focuses on the strategic upscaling of Omeka S for advanced archival and semantic use cases. By adapting open-source technologies to real institutional needs, La Tempesta contributes to building sustainable digital heritage infrastructures that translate European policy principles into operational, long-term solutions.
