As cultural heritage collections increasingly move into digital environments, ensuring the authenticity, integrity and long-term preservation of digital assets is becoming ever more important. Audiovisual archives, in particular, face growing challenges related to content manipulation, deepfakes and the reliable management of digital materials.
MediaShield addresses these challenges through an advanced AI and Digital Twin demonstrator designed to support the security, authentication and preservation of audiovisual cultural heritage archives.
The solution combines several technologies and approaches, including:
- AI-driven deepfake detection: Supporting the identification of potentially manipulated audiovisual content.
- Invisible watermark verification: Helping verify the authenticity and integrity of digital media.
- Digital preservation standards: Implementing compliance with OCFL 1.1 to support structured and sustainable management of digital collections.
- C2PA: Incorporating content provenance and authenticity mechanisms to strengthen trust in digital audiovisual assets.
By bringing these components together, MediaShield explores how AI and Digital Twin technologies can contribute to more secure, transparent and sustainable audiovisual archive management.
The demonstrator highlights the potential of emerging technologies to address practical challenges in digital cultural heritage preservation, while supporting the responsible use and long-term accessibility of audiovisual collections.
At the Time Machine Organisation (TMO), we welcome innovative solutions that connect digital technologies with the needs of the cultural heritage sector and contribute to the preservation of Europe’s digital heritage.
