On 25 November 2025, Venice will host an exciting workshop on Artificial Intelligence applied to cultural heritage management, organized by the Ugo and Olga Levi Foundation together with Made In Heritage. Taking place at the Gianni Milner Library, the event combines in-person sessions with an online live stream, making it accessible to participants across Italy and beyond.
The workshop will showcase cutting-edge projects that demonstrate how AI can transform archives and libraries. Highlights include:
- AudioNavigator: web tools for transcription and multilingual consultation of oral testimonies.
- ArchiBot: a digital assistant to support AI-powered navigation of archival heritage.
- Artificial colorization of historical images: innovative conservation and restoration techniques applied to digitized microfilms.
- Metassistant: a collaborative AI interface for describing and cataloguing historical images, with examples from the Luce Cinecittà Archives.
In the afternoon session, the focus shifts to professional development. Experts will discuss the new skills archivists and librarians need to thrive in an AI-driven environment. Presentations will cover topics such as the integration of AI in university education, advanced services for national archives, and the evolving role of libraries in cultural heritage management.
The day will conclude with an open discussion, moderated by Giorgio Busetto, bringing together professionals, IT specialists, and institutions to reflect on the future of the archivist’s role in a digital and AI-enhanced landscape.
This workshop offers a unique opportunity to explore how AI can enhance accessibility, efficiency, and creativity in cultural heritage management, while equipping professionals with the skills to navigate a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
