Hackit!4EU: Turning 3D Cultural Heritage into Innovation

Apply to be part of Hackit!4EU this 27-28 May 2026

Join us in person for a two-day hackathon marking the culmination of the Twin it! Part II campaign on 3D. Organised by the Europeana Initiative and the UNESCO Chair on Digital Cultural Heritage at Cyprus University of Technology, in cooperation with the European Commission and the Deputy Ministry of Culture of Cyprus, under the Cypriot Presidency.

Hackit!4EU has a pan-European focus, connecting culture across borders via 3D digital heritage. It supports Twin it! Part II by encouraging the creative reuse of 3D assets from across Europe collected through the campaign. It will bring together school groups and teachers in one track, and heritage and tourism professionals, students, creatives, and researchers in a second track.

The Hackit!4EU will take place in the Cyprus University of Technology, in Limassol, Cyprus.

What to expect…

Working in teams you will focus on presenting solutions for challenges like sustainable tourism, heritage preservation, technological innovation, research and education. Projects will focus on how heritage  – both tangible and intangible – can bridge across borders, celebrating the culture of the EU at national, regional and local levels. Projects could take – but are not limited to – one of the following formats: data visualisation and exploration, a VR/AR/XR experience, a game, a tour or guide or an app.

All outputs should be licensed CC-BY-SA and must use at least one Twin it! Part II model (if desired, participants are welcome to also incorporate additional Europeana data and data from other providers).

Whether you’re a developer, designer, researcher, curator, educator, or simply passionate about cultural heritage, Hackit!4EU offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful innovation while connecting with like-minded professionals.

Please note attendance is at your own cost; catering will be provided. Please bring your own devices.
