As the European cultural heritage sector continues to navigate the growing relevance of 3D digitisation and the reuse of digital models, the EUreka3D-XR project is at the forefront of innovation. Dedicated to transforming cultural content—both 2D and 3D—into immersive extended reality (XR) experiences, the project is exploring the possibilities and practicalities of this digital frontier.
On 26 September 2025, EUreka3D-XR will host a capacity building event titled “Reimagining Cultural Heritage in 3D and XR”, in collaboration with Cultuurconnect. The event will take place both on-site at TRACK Brussels and online, bringing together cultural heritage professionals, technologists, and creatives to explore the impact and potential of XR in heritage storytelling.
Event Programme
The event is structured in two parts:
Morning session (10:00–12:00 CET) – Hybrid / in English
The morning begins with an introduction to the EUreka3D-XR project and will feature—for the first time—a live demonstration of the beta versions of XR tools developed by project partners. Participants will also get an exclusive look at XR scenarios created with these tools, offering hands-on insights into how open-source digital solutions can be reused across the sector. The session will conclude with a presentation of the EUreka3D Data Hub, a central component of the project.
Afternoon session (13:00–15:00 CET) – On-site only / in Dutch
The afternoon focuses on XR practices in Flanders. Local institutions will share their journeys: how they developed their XR scenarios, the challenges they faced, and the outcomes they achieved. Special attention will be given to the impact of XR experiences on their audiences. The session will close with practical takeaways: research findings, templates, and strategic guidelines that participants can use to start or improve their own XR initiatives.
This event is an opportunity not only to learn from the EUreka3D-XR project and its tools, but also to engage in a wider conversation about the future of cultural heritage in the age of immersive technologies.
