Call for Participation

Human Frontier Science Program Frontier Workshop 2026

The Human Frontier Science Program HFSP Frontier Workshop 2026 will bring together an international and interdisciplinary community to explore how emerging technologies and novel research methodologies are transforming our understanding of evolutionary history and the fossil record.

The workshop welcomes participants from a wide range of disciplines, including paleogenomics, paleo-phenomes, evolutionary biology, paleontology, natural history collections, artificial intelligence, digital heritage, imaging technologies and computational sciences.

Bridging Disciplines to Advance Research

Understanding the history of life on Earth increasingly requires collaboration across traditional disciplinary boundaries.

The HFSP Frontier Workshop 2026 aims to foster dialogue and collaboration between researchers working with biological, geological, computational and digital approaches to studying evolution and fossil heritage. By bringing together experts from diverse fields, the workshop seeks to encourage new perspectives, innovative methodologies and future collaborations.

Topics of interest include:

  • Paleogenomics and evolutionary studies
  • Paleo-phenomes and morphological evolution
  • Fossil heritage and natural history collections
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning applications
  • Digital transformation in research and heritage
  • Advanced imaging technologies
  • Data-driven and computational approaches
  • Digital heritage methodologies
  • Emerging interdisciplinary research frameworks

Call for Abstracts

The organisers are currently welcoming:

  • Abstract submissions
  • Early-career researchers and students
  • Researchers from interdisciplinary and emerging fields
  • Participants interested in AI, digital heritage, imaging and computational approaches applied to fossils and evolution

The workshop particularly encourages participation from researchers developing innovative digital methods and computational tools for studying natural history and evolutionary processes.

Abstract Submission Deadline: 10 June 2026

Many of the challenges addressed by the workshop resonate strongly with the interests of the Time Machine community. The growing use of artificial intelligence, advanced imaging, digital twins, large-scale data infrastructures and computational analysis is creating new opportunities to connect cultural heritage, natural heritage and scientific research.

By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, initiatives such as the HFSP Frontier Workshop contribute to the development of innovative approaches for documenting, analysing and communicating complex historical and evolutionary narratives.

Important Information

Researchers, students and professionals interested in participating are encouraged to submit their abstracts and join this interdisciplinary exchange of ideas.

For workshop information, registration and abstract submission details, please consult the organisers’ website.

We encourage members of the Time Machine Organisation network to share this opportunity with colleagues, students and researchers who may be interested.
