Time Machine Organisation is pleased to share that Juha Henriksson, Partnership Manager at TMO, has been elected to the AI Governance Corridor (AIGC)—an international initiative bringing together expertise and perspectives to advance dialogue and cooperation on artificial intelligence governance.
The AI Governance Corridor aims to connect voices from the Global North and the Global South, creating opportunities for exchange across different disciplines, regions and institutional contexts. Its work highlights the importance of approaching AI governance not only as a technological or regulatory question, but also as a matter of public responsibility, inclusion and international cooperation.
Bringing cultural heritage into the AI governance conversation
Henriksson’s involvement offers an important opportunity to bring perspectives from the cultural heritage sector into wider discussions about the development and governance of AI. Cultural heritage institutions hold extensive knowledge, collections and data that can contribute to the development of AI systems. At the same time, their engagement raises questions about public access, cultural diversity, copyright, data protection and the preservation of cultural sovereignty.
These considerations are closely connected to the debate around Public AI: the idea that AI should be shaped by public values, accountability and the interests of society, rather than being determined solely by commercial priorities. In a recent contribution to the AI Governance Corridor’s dialogue series, Henriksson presented Europeana’s paper The Case for Public AI: Making It Happen with Cultural Heritage, exploring how the cultural heritage sector can help shape a more democratic and publicly accountable AI ecosystem.
Connecting perspectives for responsible AI
International collaboration is essential to developing approaches to AI governance that take account of different social, cultural and political contexts. By connecting expertise across regions and disciplines, the AI Governance Corridor provides a space for dialogue on responsible AI and the challenges of governing rapidly evolving technologies.
TMO congratulates Juha Henriksson on his election and looks forward to the perspectives and experience he will contribute to this international exchange.
