Tools for data enrichment Tools for data mining/extraction Linked Data Photos Crowdsourcing / Citizens’ science

UGESCO has developed geo-temporal (meta)data extraction and enrichment tools to extend and link existing collection items and facilitate spatio-temporal collection mapping for interactive querying. UGESCO focused on meta-data enrichment of collections of historical photographs from – or related to – Belgium (7100 photos), particularly collections related to the Second World War (as a test sample).

In order to optimize the quality of the temporal and spatial annotations that are retrieved by the automatic enrichment tools, UGESCO also investigated the added value of microtask crowdsourcing in validating and improving the generated metadata. This was done through related crowdsourcing subproject UGESCROWD.
