Arthur Schnitzler was born in 1862 on Praterstraße in Vienna and passed away in 1931 on Sternwartestraße, just ten kilometers away. He wrote successful plays, novels, and short stories, most of which are set in Vienna. He left the city only for travels and summer retreats. Thanks to his diary, correspondence, and other documents, we currently know of over 40,000 stays at more than 3,500 locations. For no other person of his time are there currently so many freely available, georeferenced data points. These data reveal where Schnitzler moved, the houses, streets, neighborhoods, cities, and countries he knew and valued. At the same time, they also highlight where he never set foot.
