The İzmir Time Machine is bringing the city’s historic han buildings back into public memory through digital reconstruction and an interactive mapping platform.
A comprehensive inventory of İzmir’s historical hans has been completed by the İzmir Development Agency, forming the basis for a timeline-based interactive map with informational texts for each site.
In parallel, five significant hans—Mirkelamoğlu, Büyük Karaosmanoğlu, Çakaloğlu, Cambaz, and Musevit—will be digitally reconstructed and integrated into the platform, allowing the public and researchers to explore these historic structures online.
This initiative ensures that İzmir’s han fabric, largely lost over time, remains visible, researchable, and accessible in the digital realm.
