Date: 27 September 2025
Location: Torino, Italy
More info: UNIGHT Torino Event

On 27 September 2025, Torino will celebrate the 20th European Researchers’ Night, an annual event that brings science closer to the public and showcases the exciting ways research intersects with our daily lives. This year, the Time Machine Organisation is proud to see our member project “Turin 1911 – the World’s Fair in Italy” take part, offering visitors a unique journey through time.

A Century-Old Exhibition Reimagined

In 1911, the International Exhibition transformed Valentino Park into a vibrant celebration of Italy’s 50th anniversary of unification. Pavilions, gardens, and attractions captivated visitors—but most of these ephemeral architectures have long disappeared.

Thanks to modern technologies, the Time Machine project invites participants to rediscover this historic event. Using 3D printing, virtual reality, augmented reality, geomatics, and even early 20th-century stereographs, visitors will explore the exhibition’s long-lost structures and experiences in a hands-on and immersive way.

Engage with Researchers and History

At the science café, guests will meet Alessandra Spreafico and Filiberto Chiabrando (Politecnico di Torino) and Cristina Della Coletta (UC San Diego). They will guide the audience through research questions and the processes that connect historical archives with modern digital tools, creating a dialogue between the past and present.

This workshop exemplifies how Time Machine projects bridge cultural heritage, technology, and public engagement. Participants won’t just learn about history—they’ll interact with it, touch it, and experience it in ways that were previously impossible.
