Strengthening Europe’s 3D Cultural Heritage Ecosystem

The future of digital cultural heritage is being shaped through collaboration, shared infrastructures, and innovative technologies. Recently, TMO joined partners and stakeholders in Poznań for a series of events highlighting the progress and impact of two important European initiatives: 3DBigDataSpace and 3D-4CH – Online Competence Centre in 3D for Cultural Heritage.

The events demonstrated how Europe is advancing from the creation and management of 3D cultural heritage data towards new forms of access, reuse, and immersive experiences.

From 3D Data to XR Experiences

The “From 3D Data to XR Experiences: Forum on the Future of Cultural Heritage Technologies” brought together representatives from 3DBigDataSpace, XRculture, 3D-4CH, Europeana Foundation, and the wider cultural heritage community to discuss the future of Europe’s digital heritage ecosystem.

The forum explored the complete journey of digital cultural heritage — from 3D data creation and enrichment to immersive XR applications and sustainable reuse. Discussions highlighted the importance of interoperability, shared standards, skills development, and long-term infrastructures.

A key moment was the panel discussion “Beyond the Horizon: A Unified Roadmap for Europe’s 3D Cultural Heritage”, which brought together different perspectives on how European initiatives can work together to support the entire lifecycle of 3D cultural heritage data.

Building Skills and Sustainable Innovation

The following day, the 3D-4CH consortium meeting marked an important milestone as the project reached its halfway point. Partners reflected on progress and discussed the next steps towards establishing a European competence centre supporting skills, standards, and knowledge exchange in 3D cultural heritage.

The meeting also included a visit to the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center (PCSS), offering partners insights into the digital infrastructures that support research, data management, and technological innovation.

A Shared European Vision

For TMO, these exchanges underline the importance of connecting communities, infrastructures, and expertise across Europe. By bringing together initiatives focused on 3D data spaces, XR technologies, and competence building, Europe is moving closer to a sustainable ecosystem where cultural heritage data can be preserved, shared, and transformed into new experiences.

We congratulate our partners on these important milestones and look forward to continuing our collaboration in advancing the digital transformation of cultural heritage.
