When Walls Speak

The 4th Valais Wallis Time Machine Hackathon

What if the walls around us could tell their stories?

That was the challenge set at the 4th Valais Wallis Time Machine Hackathon, held on 23–24 August 2025 in Brig. Participants gathered in front of the Landmauer of Gamsen, a historic monument brimming with forgotten tales, and were asked to bring the past to life through digital innovation.

The winning project, The Legends of the Wall, imagined by Emmanuelle Breiner and Nikolaos Spanos, did exactly that. Combining storytelling, design, and technology, their concept gave voice to the centuries-old stones, offering a new way to experience this site of national significance.

The project demonstrates how creativity and digital tools can transform how we engage with cultural heritage making history not only visible, but tangible and alive.

We’re excited to see how The Legends of the Wall will evolve in the coming months, and how it may inspire other projects across the Time Machine ecosystem.
