Next week, Siena becomes the stage for one of the most exciting conversations on culture and technology: Digital Heritage 2025. The Time Machine Organisation is proud to join the event, bringing our expertise through the 3DBigDataSpace consortium and the 3D-4CH consortium.
Exploring the Future of 3D Digital Heritage
On Monday, 8 September (15.30–18.30 CET, University of Siena, Room 4:262), our Secretary Sander Münster will co-lead the workshop “3D Data in the Data Space for Cultural Heritage”.
This hands-on workshop, organised as a joint workshop by the European projects XRculture, EUreka3D-XR, 3DBigDataSpace and 3D-4CH, which will explore how 3D data is shaping the European Data Space for Cultural Heritage, which is lead under Europeana. Participants will:
- Try out practical tools for 3D digitisation and reuse.
- Learn how common standards can unlock collaboration across borders.
- Join live demonstrations and discussions with leading experts.
It’s more than a technical deep dive, it’s a chance to imagine a Europe where 3D cultural heritage is shared, reused, and accessible for everyone: from researchers to tourists, from educators to creative industries.
Challenges & Opportunities in 3D Digitisation
On Tuesday, 9 September (14.30–16.00 CET, Room 2:269), the focus turns to the 3D-4CH Competence Centre with the panel “Powering 3D Digitisation of Europe’s Heritage”.
Speakers from CARARE, Europeana, the Discovery Programme, INCEPTION, and more will reflect on the state of 3D digitisation in Europe sharing real-world lessons, new technologies, and strategies for the future.
Expect insights into:
- Large-scale digitisation projects like Giravolt (Catalonia) and TwinIt.
- Making 3D assets interoperable and widely reusable.
- The impact of AI and XR on cultural heritage.
- The role of the 3D-4CH Competence Centre as a hub for training, tools, and community building.
This session is designed for policymakers, cultural professionals, and digital practitioners looking to understand both the challenges and opportunities of 3D digitisation in Europe.
Why It Matters
The European Commission’s vision to digitise millions of cultural heritage assets in 3D by 2030 is ambitious and achievable, if we work together.
By contributing to both 3DBigDataSpace and 3D-4CH, the Time Machine Organisation is helping to build the infrastructure, skills, and collaborations needed to make that vision a reality. You can read more about the individual workshops on the project websites here and here.
Join us in Siena, and be part of shaping the future of 3D digital heritage in Europe, learn, and take part in shaping the future of 3D digital heritage in Europe.
