Twin it! Part II: High-Level Political Closing Event Marks a Milestone for Europe’s 3D Cultural Heritage Strategy

On 12 May 2026 in Brussels, the Twin it! Part II campaign will reach a key political milestone with a high-level ministerial closing event, organised by the Europeana Foundation and the European Commission, under the auspices of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The event is by invitation only and will bring together Ministers of Culture from EU Member States to reflect on their national contributions to the campaign and present their vision for the future reuse of 3D-digitised cultural heritage assets across Europe.

A milestone for Europe’s digital cultural heritage strategy

Building on the success of Twin it! 3D for Europe’s Culture (2023–2024), the current edition (June 2025 – June 2026) strengthens Europe’s commitment to the European data space for cultural heritage.

Member States have contributed high-quality 3D-digitised heritage assets, enriched with metadata and reuse scenarios, demonstrating how cultural heritage can become a driver of:

  • Digital innovation
  • Cross-border collaboration
  • Sustainable cultural tourism
  • Knowledge creation and education

From digitisation to reuse

A central ambition of Twin it! Part II is to move beyond digitisation towards practical and scalable reuse of cultural heritage data, aligning with the EU’s long-term strategy for digital transformation and the data space for cultural heritage (2021 Recommendation).

The ministerial event will highlight how Member States are:

  • Integrating 3D heritage into national strategies
  • Supporting innovation ecosystems
  • Strengthening collaboration with cultural institutions and tech providers

The Brussels event marks the opening of a series of concluding activities celebrating the campaign’s achievements and shaping its legacy in Europe’s digital cultural ecosystem.
