The area of ​​cultural heritage has been one of the priorities in EU funding policy since the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 at the latest. Horizon Europe Cluster 2 is currently focusing on innovative research on European cultural heritage and the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs). In addition, as part of the European Digital Decade, the EU is pursuing the goal of digitizing Europe’s cultural heritage and preserving it digitally, among other things, via the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH), which is also supported by the DIGITAL Europe Programme. Last but not least, the calls for tenders for the EU missions also address heritage topics and the cultural and creative industries, and the New European Bauhaus Initiative is closely related to this area. In this deep dive there is an overview of the current priorities of European research policy in the area of ​​cultural heritage and cultural and creative industries, an outlook on upcoming tenders and calls from 2024 on cultural heritage and creative industries a substantive exchange with scientists on questions of digitalization and the contribution of cultural heritage to current social transformation processes.
