The archive of the monastery of Santa Sofia in Benevento boasts very ancient origins. The monastery was founded by Arechi II, prince of Benevento in the first half of the eighth century.
The archive, due to many vicissitudes, has undergone a dismemberment and many displacements. It is currently located in three archives: the archive of Santa Sofia in Benevento (central nucleus), the Archive of the Aldobrandini princes in Frascati, and the Vatican Apostolic Library.
In the long years of studying parchments, I was able to reconstruct the historical events that led to its division.
The archive is very rich in documents and contents due to its interdisciplinary peculiarity, but still little known.
The project aims to virtually reconstruct the entire ancient parchment core, in order to make it accessible to the public in its entirety. The database will be equipped with multiple search keys, with the chronotaxis of the abbess, abbots, provost, notaries, judges and much more.
